I would say that art is an expression by an individual or group in any sort of medium that can be experienced by any of the senses of another human being.

I would add that great art is something that touches that sense in such a way that the sight, sound, smell, feel or taste stays with the observer forever to be remembered and pondered for a lifetime.

I think art is simply the expression of one's feelings in any form. I don't always agree with another person's feelings just as I don't always appreciate someone's art.

Art is a gift from the artist to the world that reflects his/her view of that world.

I don't know that Art can be defined per se. I believe that each individual will come up with his or her own interpretation of what art is or isn't. When I was in college, studying Art History it always amazed me that an intellectual would try to interpret an artists feelings' through their work. This fascinates me as rarely do the feelings I have take overt control of the piece I am doing. Art is a grand word for an all encompassing interaction with the body's interpretations of it' own surroundings. The minds eye brought forth in the physical realm. This might hold true for any artform. This would be my own definition of a word, that for all intents and purposes is indefinable. It sure is beautiful to try though isn't it!

P.S Darwin your work is absolutely Amazing!

Coby;
I am with you as far if art can be defined. It is really up to the individuals perception of his/her own reality in life. Great point of view, clever.
Thanks for the compliments about my work... you are a unique artist as well

geewits;
Interesting point of view in the great art aspect by combining all the senses and staying with the observer, never saw it that way.
You are basically saying that every great experience of the human been is an an art action.
cool.
Thanks,

For me art is expression of idea's, notions, emotions; an expression of how you see the world you live in. It is framed in time, the present. For me art is a work that challenges me, makes me think or feel. I love the work of old masters like Vermeer, Da Vinci and Caravaggio, but also Manet, Picasso, Modigliani or the contemperaries like De Kooning and Kadinsky. Their work move me, challenges me and inspire me. That is, in my book, what art is all about.
